Our dog is almost 10 years old and she is the best dog I have ever had hands down. She puts up with Linus' mean streaks, puts up with our cat constantly licking her ears. And she puts up with my attitude I get all the time. She was free. She is an Airdale Terrier and something else. She is just the right size pet. Not too small, not huge. He name is, if I haven't said it before, is Guinness Marie. All my pets had to have middle names because they were my babies before I had Linus. I can honestly say that when hwe loose her, I will be a basket case for days and days. I'd like to get another dog before she dies but then I don't want her to think we are replacing her with a younger dog. I work at my office alone 6 days a week and she is here with me to keep me company. I love it. I always feel safer knowing she is here to protect me. Only once has she growled at someone coming in and continued until they left when she knew they made me uncomfortable. She is a fantastic dog. We call her Guinny Pig alot and Linus now thinks she is one when you show him a book with Guinea Pigs. He squeals my ruff ruff. We laugh.
Esther Ruth on the other hand is a different cat. I got her when she was 7 weeks old. She loved our home the instant she moved in. Her and Guinness are best friends. They snuggle on the couch every night. Esther licks Guinness' ears all the time. I am constantly yelling at her cuz I find it annoying. Not sure about Guinny.
Before I had Linus, we had another cat named Sammy James. He was a long hair domestic cat. He was great until we had Linus. He started peeing everywhere. Pooping everywhere. He even sprayed Linus' wall one day. I'm surprised that he lived in my home so long. July of 2007, I couldn't take it anymore. I took him to a local farm vet and asked her to put him to sleep cuz I couldn't give him to anyone knowing he does what he does. She asked if she could keep him as a barn cat. I felt much better. You know, that cat drove me nuts but I balled my eyes out just thinking that I wanted to put him down for being "dirty". I believe he's still alive. I hope he survived the winter there. He was a good boy but Esther hated him and he and Guinness didn't get along. It's kinda like he wasn't meant to be in our home.
I grew up with lots of pets but no other will impact me the way Guinness Marie and Esther Ruth have.
I hope they day I lose them, I will be able to get through the days without being a basket case. Because you know, they were my kids before I had any.

P.S. These are not my animals but they look really close to this.
